Department: Neurodiagnostics Lab

FTE: 0.05
Casual Pool (as needed)
Shift: Nights

Position Summary:
All duties performed under the direct training and supervision of a an experienced EEG TECH. Assist and participate in a variety of duties related to Neurodiagnostic Lab to include obtaining patient medical history, applying EEG electrodes including using collodion application method, initiating activation procedures. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* TRAINEE PROGRAM - Participate in the UNMH EEG Tech training program, including supplemental reading, periodic evaluations and tests
* PATIENT CARE - Participate in obtaining patient medical history to include neurologic symptomatology and medications; assist in providing basic patient screening procedures to include head measurements, apply EEG electrodes and other related duties
* PATIENT CARE - Assist with calibrating, evaluating and adjusting EEG instruments to ensure accuracy; participate in recording EEG activity and labeling instrument setting and observations; advise patient and family members regarding test procedures
* PATIENT CARE - Participate in monitoring or eliminating electrode artifacts to include muscle artifact, eye movements, respiration artifact to ensure adequate tracing
* PATIENT CARE - Participate in implementing alternative non-standard montages and machine settings to display abnormalities
* PATIENT CARE - Assist in performing routine activation procedures to include hyperventilation and photic stimulation; may remove EEG electrodes as required
* PATIENT CARE - In collaboration with laboratory supervisor, experienced EEG tech or attending physician review EEG tracings
* INFECTION CONTROL - Maintain a sanitary work area to include patient care rooms, equipment and instruments
* DATA - Enter various data into computer; verify data, make corrections and ensure accuracy; schedule patient appointments; answer and direct phone calls as requested; take and relay messages
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
* PATIENT CARE – Following training is responsible for EEG electrode application using collodion and gauze squares for long term video EEG monitoring. This includes recording the initial baseline file with electrode tap test performed and documented. Following training with experienced Tech also includes review of EEG waveform data and video correlates; annotating patient events or changes noted during EEG data review: typing a technical description of EEG waveform data noted on each file reviewed; notifying the appropriate EEG attending physician with timely EEG data review updates; and performing EEG file clipping an archiving duties
* PATIENT CENTERED MED - Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable
